Because the plastics industry is linked to the oil industry and really started to take off in the 'build back better' years of mass production after the World Wars, they have been very canny in making us feel ok about becoming a throw away society. Infact business started to thrive on it - unfortunately the planet started to die on it.
So, when plastic breaks, don't chuck it - see if you can fix it. If a plastic biro casing breaks, keep it and when a plastic biro runs out of ink - BINGO! We've all got drawers of the things. Wait until they're all used up and then as for a refillable pen for your birthday! Some things can be glued and last a bit longer. Kids love it when they see people fix things. And, if you're too busy, find a grandparent - I should know😉
The internet is amazing for finding missing or broken parts for things to save throwing them away. The Repair Cafes that run throughout the year across the Borough are worth popping in to if it's something expensive. Please add your successful repair stories in the comments boxes.
